This little guy was painted for the Wyrd Games "Rotten Harvest" Painting Contest.
The tombstone & hand are both GW plastic bits. He's mounted on a bit of cork. I didn't want his coat to be brownish because
it seemed that many versions of this model was painted that way, and I settled on purple.. well, because I like it and
because Reaper had just come out with a new bruised purple pallete, which sounded kinda undead-ish to me.. :)
I had a rotten time finishing this model up. The dullcote spray hadn't gotten everywhere evenly, so I tried to touch it
up with a bit of brush-on vallejo matte finish. It left little white spots!!! arg! So I had to repaint it, and then since
vallejo was the only matte brush on I had, I let it dry for an hour or two, then made sure to shake the matte finish really,
really well, and once again - white spots! Well, fixed it again - and at this point, the coat was starting to get a bit
rough in places from too much paint.. cry.. At this point, I went to the hobby shop and picked up a bottle of
testor's brush on dullcote lacquer. Finally managed to get the coat to look presentable, though I had to repaint the whole
thing several times (when the white spots spilled over from black to purple, I pretty much had to start over with black and
rehighlight everything in the area..). All things considered, I am very happy with how he turned out.
The tombstone has my first attempt at writing on a model with a micron pen. It faded a bit oddly in some places after
I put on the top coat - don't know why - I let it dry overnight.. The angle was awkward, too. I guess I should have painted
the headstone separately and added it later.. Ah well, live & learn.. :)
