I don't know how I originally decided to make an army of frost elves.. I think I had bought vallejo game color Somber Gray and was having fun experimenting with it.. Somehow I decided that it would make a cool skin color. I had a witch elf lying around... and now, months later, here is the final product of my experimenting. :)

Her skin is game color somber gray as a base color. I shaded with a very watery vallejo model color oxford blue (it's a slightly purplish blue). I used black glaze for places like around her eyes and around her clothing. I rehighlighted with somber gray then highlighted with vallejo model color azure.

The base color for her clothing is vallejo model color brown rose. On the bodice, I shaded with reaper's flesh wash, but when I tried to do the same on her skirt, I couldn't get it smooth enough for my liking, so I just repainted it brown rose. I highlighted first with v. model color beige red and then with v. game color pale flesh. I am thinking of trying v. model color basic flesh next time.... the pale flesh is just a little too powdery on top of these colors in some places.

The yellow armor was the toughest. After several experiments, I finally bought a somewhat orangey-yellow craft paint at Michael's to use as a shade(apple barrel King's Gold, 50 cents!). The basic color is v. model color light yellow highlighted with v. model color pale sand. I am thinking about going over some of the high points with white, but I don't want it to blend in with the snow too much..

Her hair was painted with v. model color dark blue grey. I then tried to highlight with v. model color pale blue, but it didn't look quite right. So I used iron-wind metals' green ink and then re-highlighted with dark blue grey. I think it turned out pretty nicely.

I suck at metallics, so I didn't do as much with them, although I did manage to do a little shading and highlighting using my new favorite ink-glaze paints, a selection of the faux-stain glass paints I bought at michael's.

My fiancee doesn't like all of the yellow around her face, but I think it provides a pleasant contrast.
