I painted this one for the Reaper Fall 2005 mini exchange for Beowulfthehunter. I finished it WAY before the deadline this time, a big accomplishment for me! This was really the first monster I've painted (unless you count the "harpy" and "unicorn") and I had fun doing it. This was also my first attempt at "blood splatter" - I thought about putting it on his teeth, bracers, and that bone thingy on his shoulder, but I thought they turned out so nice I didn't wanna dirty them!!

His "flesh" was painted with Reaper's Dark Flesh triad & the Tan Shadow. The reddish fur is the Mahogany triad, with a bit of linen white mixed in for the brightest part. At first I wanted to give him a pink nose, but it looked really silly, so I stuck to Stormy Gray instead. I'm getting better at using the Aged Bone triad, as can be seen on his shoulder & teeth, and I used Jungle Green for the green bits. I'm really proud of how the shaft on his axe turned out - it was a mix of light browns and dark browns, with alot of washing and streaking to get it to look like actual wood. I think it turned out really nice!

The metallics were done with the mid-tone silver, honed steel, from RMS, and then a mix of reaper's flesh shading ink and tamiya clear red as a glaze, as well as black ink glaze, and vallejo's brown glaze. I think re-highlighted a few areas with pearly white. The blood on his axe was made with tamiya clear red mixed with black ink. I splotched it on with an old brush, and then let the ink mix dry a bit and put on a second layer with chunkier bits. I was too timid - I didn't make it chunky enough. Most importantly, I applied brush-on gloss paint on the bloody bits after I had dullcoated everything

There's a bit of dust on the model, the basing material I used was just a nightmare - little fiddly bits were falling off all over the place while I was trying to take pictures. I couldn't move the figure without something falling off, and then trying to dust that off usually meant something else got dislodged. =(. I also accidently top-coated a bit of blue-tac onto the front of the base, and removing it and repairing the paint didn't work very well =(
