I started planning this for my fiancee a couple of months ago. I was inspired by the picture "The Kiss" to make a pair of lovers with miniatures. The nature of the painting itself makes it almost impossible to accurately or nicely reproduce it in a 3d format, so all I wanted to keep was the image of the lovers reaching for each other or in mid-embrace.

Trying to find a pair of miniatures that I could make look like they were embracing was pretty difficult and my sculpting skills are pretty rudimentary, so I decided to go for the pre-kiss moment.

Anyway, they've been sitting on my painting desk for a while now, primed and ready, but for some reason I hadn't been ready to tackle the project. Well, now we have finally set a wedding date for this summer and we've started talking plans, among them being what we're going to put on top of our cake. So I finished this!

I painted them in our wedding colors (amethyst and garnet), although his cloak turned out a little more pink than I meant it to, and the purple on the girl's dress is a bit darker than it will be in our wedding, but I thought a very pale color wouldn't stand out enough (compare with the purple on the shield on the base, for example). Anyway, I thought about doing a summery base for them, but if it's going to be on our cake, it'll be on top of white frosting, so I thought snow would be more appropriate (plus, if the snow flakes off on the cake, it'll be much less noticeable than grass!! :)
