After being away on vacation and not having picked up a paintbrush for a week, and then fighting
illness while trying to work 8 hour days, I didn't feel like painting anything too ... I dunno,
I guess you would say important (like, an army thing or a comission thing). I wanted something simple
and fun to get me back into painting. I had Shae sitting in my tray of primered-but-not-yet-painted minis,
so I decided to finally take a crack at her.
I decided to go for an autumn feel for this elf. It's more muted than my usual colors, except for her
hair/base, which I wanted to stand out like those brilliant orange maple leaves you see in the fall. :). Her
pants and cloak were painted with foundry's ochre and moss color palletes, respectively. Her shirt was
painted with a base coat of a sorta sea-blue color from vallejo, followed by a wash of green faux-stain glass
ink, and highlighted with a mix of the sea-blue and a lighter blue-green color. Her hair was painted with
foundry's orange shade, washed with flesh wash from both reaper and GW, and then re highlighted. I was
also glad that there was almost no metallic weapons on this one, 'cause I hate painting swords and the like
(mostly because I can't make it look good... ). ;)
Finally, her base was done with the 'honey' colored static grass--a new experiment for me. It turned
out pretty good. I wished i'd had some orangey stuff for moss, but didn't feel like going to get any just
to finish her. I also tried to mix the green and honey colored static grasses, but I think I had put too
much of the honey on first, 'cause none of the green would stick on! I don't like static grass so much
'cause it got into all the corners and cracks of the model and trying to get it out without ruining the paint
job was a heart-pounding process!
