In the pond, I see a reflection. A quiet, thoughtful face, With eyes of deep, dark brown A slight smile crosses her lips, Strained and shy. I blink at her, She blinks at me. It seems so peaceful, Beneath the water, I wish I could be her. I laugh at the thought, And she laughs too. Her mouth opens with her laugh, Her eyes sparkle and smile. I reach down to her, She reaches up for me. I touch her fingertips, But only water touches mine. Surprised, I pull my hand away, But the image is already gone. All that is left is the quiet, Lonely girl, with sad eyes And a sadder smile. I walk away, And as I do, I wonder, Was that my face, Staring back at me? |
